Rooting Back In, October 2022

There is a powerful sense of putting down roots in the Soul Herd Community now.

How to root back in to ourselves may be the ultimate gift we receive from our horse friends. They don’t need to use words, or ideas or even actions. They are simply rooted inside themselves and every time we come into contact with them we can absorb that coherence pattern.

Our Soul Herd contributors are talented journeyers who have explored and awakened over and over again. They are dedicated to sharing the wisdom they are channeling from horses. Whether that channeling happens through energetic pathways, communing or plain observation doesn’t matter. What does matter is that the messages coming through are so beautifully complimentary.

Wisdoms that are coming through most often so far:

  • Find a way to slow down and take time with your horse.
  • Allow the potential in your relationship to lead you.
  • Acknowledge and listen deeply: to your horse and to yourself.
  • Trust your own unique inner guidance and that you can recieve it.
  • Awaken to the mirror that the horses are offering us.

Change The Feeling, Change the Reflection

A brief look at how our feelings can affect the behaviour of the animals in our life

The behaviours of the animals that share our environment are, in all likelihood, a subconscious habit developed from a conscious reaction to something we feel or do subconsciously.

“What on earth does all that mean?” I hear you asking. I will try and explain.

The subconscious mind is where our habits are. We learn to drive with our conscious mind. Then we keep driving and after a while we drive subconsciously. We don’t think about changing gear anymore. It is automatic. It is a habitual response created from persistently doing the same thing in response to a given situation.

We can improve the way we drive by questioning our habit, changing the way we do it, and then continuing that until the new way becomes a subconscious habit. Maybe you buy a new car and it has 6 gears. All your previous cars have had 5 gears. So you change your habit consciously until using 6 gears becomes a subconscious habit. When you find you have automatically put the car in 6th gear as a response to your speed and environment and, you didn’t consciously think about it, you have created a subconscious habit.

The Unique Moment of Kinship, September 2022

Those unique moments of kinship are what having horses is all about for so many horse guardians

The value of kinship with horses has been coming through to me in the articles and the wonderful podcast discussions last month. Those moments of togetherness and clarity in communication are such a blessing. Quite often during this journey I have reflected how much easier it would feel to be working within a team. To relax into a sharing of responsibility and ideas. Although the freedom of being able to listen to my inner guidance and allow growth to be pressure free is invaluable.

In those moments of feeling nervous about the technology and a little overwhelmed by the responsibility, I remember that I am far from alone! That all of the unique, talented and passionate contributors are the team. And of course, at the heart of Soul Herd, our forward thinking active members. They recognised so early on what is being created here for the horses. And I am sure that in time the right people will come forward if more internal support is required.

The Liberating Power of Riding a Horse Bitless

There are so many reasons why riding bitless is the next step for many in our holistic horsemanship awakening

Riding a horse bitless might be seen as the latest fad or fashion in equestrianism. I feel it is more accurate to say it represents our spiritual awakening. It is another manifestation of our growing ability to listen, and to respond to the horses in our lives.

When I started riding ponies, the equipment I was required to use was never in question. I imagine this is true for most of us. The bridle plus bit, and saddle were fetched from the tack room. Maybe a martingale or a breastplate were included, or some other form of extra security. This tack always seemed so cumbersome and uncomfortable, saddle pads and numnahs often caked in dried sweat and grease. In particular the girth might be hard and brittle. Even as a child it felt somehow disappointing to present such wondrous beings with this equipment.

The children who were able to discover a pony in a field with nothing but the two of them, body to body, innocent of rules or traditions, were blessed indeed. How different it becomes to reconsider every step we take, every habit and technique that we employ and see it in a different light.

Limitations and Boundaries with Laminitis

A look at limitations and boundaries with Querida. Part of my journey with laminitis.

Querida the pony and I have shared a lot of feelings over this hot summer. Feelings that emerged have included anger, frustration, annoyance, stubbornness, and feelings of being restricted. Querida has been breaking my fences and I have been repairing. She is getting into fields she shouldn’t be in, and this brings up her pulses and the laminitis flares up.

At times I have got so cross with her seeming self-destructive mood that I have found myself dragging her back out of the field in annoyance. Querida then gets stubborn, ignoring me, and not moving, because I am not asking in a nice way and we just keep on spiralling. It is even worse when this all happens in the middle of the afternoon when it is scorching hot!

Let’s Talk Herd has Begun, August 2022

Let’s Talk Herd is up and running, and already attracting fascinating guests…

Let’s Talk Herd, the Soul Herd podcast started this month. Being in the presence of such like minded guests has been very inspiring, despite the occasional technical challenge! It truly feels like a quantum leap in terms of authentically connecting with kindred spirits. And the potential of collaboration seems so much greater now. Meeting face to face and talking with a real person is so much more natural and multi-dimensional.

I have been pleasantly surprised at how easy it has been to engage with each guest. It has been like meeting old friends and clicking in to our favourite subjects. So many parallels are surfacing in these podcasts. Fundamental truths that we are realising and discovering in our individual journeys with horses. Going within for answers and following our inner guidance. And the horses show us how to do that just by being themselves.
